Calibrated Airspeeds (1/2/2007)

Prior to the Caddo Mills flight tests from 12/13/2006 through 12/23/2006, data were presented on this web site referenced to instrument calibrated values determined by Dr. Sinha and me. Thanks to Dick Johnson and the Dallas Glider Association, we now have a complete airspeed system calibration for Standard Cirrus #60. Therefore, future reports will reference aircraft calibrated speeds for this glider. However, when accurate values are not important to the discussion, descriptive text will use indicated airspeeds. The move to calibrated airspeeds reduced previous L/D calculations about 4%.

The following graphs present the instrument and system errors determined by Dick Johnson.

Our thanks to Dick Johnson, Jeff Baird and the entire staff at Southwest Soaring, Inc. and the Dallas Glider Association (DGA) for funding these flight tests.
